Communities that Care

OUR JOURNEY SO FAR

At OCGPFY, we’re bringing together our two school districts, community organizations, businesses, families, and young people in Oregon City and Gladstone to move upstream and build a future where every youth thrives.

We’ve formed six dedicated work-groups, held our Key Leader Orientation and Community Board Orientation, and officially moved into Phase 2 of the Communities That Care (CTC) process—a nationally recognized, science-based prevention model.

With the support of a five-year grant from Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), we’ve completed orientation, defined our shared vision, and built the foundation of our coalition.

WHAT WE’VE ACCOMPLISHED

  • Created our name and vision: “We inspire community action that empowers youth to thrive and carry forward a legacy of strength, leadership, and care.”
  • Recruited passionate community changemakers and launched six work groups to focus on targeted areas of prevention, data, and action.
  • Launched the CTC orientation training modules, establishing key leader and board structures that set us up to collect data and build a strategic plan.
  • Began the collaborative work between the two districts and community partners to align systems, establish shared language, and commit to the evidence-based model of CTC.

OUR PATH FORWARD

Phase 3 & Beyond: We’re now entering the next stage of our work where we move from planning to action. Here’s how we’ll advance:

  1. Build our community profile – We’ll collect, analyze and translate data on youth behaviors, risk & protective factors, and community assets so that our work is grounded in evidence.
  2. Prioritize & plan – Using the data, our workgroups will identify the top 2-5 risk and protective factors to target, map existing resources and gaps, and develop an action plan of proven strategies.
  3. Implement with fidelity – We’ll select evidence-based programs, policies and practices, roll them out in alignment with CTC guidelines, and monitor the outcomes so we know what’s working.
  4. Sustain & scale – As we demonstrate early wins, we’ll build capacity for infrastructure, partnerships, and funding to ensure long-term impact and community ownership.
  5. Engage & communicate – We’ll continually invite community members, youth, parents, businesses and organizations to join, stay informed, and help shape the future of our coalition.
